IHS Announces Intermat OptiX for MRO Supply Chain Management

Assess, architect, and manage maintenance, repair and operations supply chains

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (March 19, 2009) — IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight, today announced it is teaming with Net Results, a leading operations strategy and engineered solutions firm, to offer Intermat OptiX™, a systematic and disciplined approach to assess, architect and optimize an organization’s Maintenance, Repair and Operations (MRO) supply chain. Intermat OptiX provides a comprehensive assessment and client-customized architecture for all aspects of the MRO supply chain, including strategic sourcing, procurement, critical spares identification, stocking strategies, information technology utilization, vendor-managed inventory, consignment, employee skills, inventory optimization (order point and order quantity determination), and storeroom management.

“Industrial and process organizations usually have a considerable investment in spare parts and materials to keep their plants running, but the MRO supply chain is often neglected or improperly managed,” said Don Lesem, vice president of product lifecycle, IHS. “This makes MRO a key cost savings opportunity. Optimizing the MRO supply chain can save millions of dollars, and simultaneously improve material and plant availability. Teaming with Net Results provides our customers an unbiased, industry-proven approach to analyze and improve their entire MRO supply chain.”

Intermat OptiX delivers an integrated architecture for MRO Supply Chain strategies, practices and analytics. It begins with a three-day workshop to assess a company’s current MRO supply chain and operational practices.  After the workshop, an MRO Supply Chain performance model is provided, which includes a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluating critical capabilities.   The model is supported by a high-level practical path forward that includes recommendations for improved MRO material availability and supply surety, while minimizing investment.

IHS Intermat pioneered the standardization of industrial MRO materials information 30 years ago and since that time has remained the market leader in helping the Global 2000 optimize and manage their MRO data.  IHS Intermat provides tools and services to create structured descriptions for industrial MRO items, and to optimize MRO inventory Order Points (OP), Order Quantities (OQ) and Lead Times (LT).

“The challenge that today’s organizations face is to optimize production capacity to meet demand while simultaneously reducing operating costs,” said Rich MacInnes, Net Results’ chief strategist and author of Strategic MRO, A Roadmap for Transforming Assets into a Strategic Advantage. “Intermat OptiX provides the solid data foundation and methods that asset-intensive organizations need to optimize their MRO supply chain, and to ensure they always have the right parts, in the right quantity, at the right time, and at the right price.”

Intermat OptiX is available immediately.
