HOUSTON (August 12, 2009) – IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight, announced today it will host the 2009 Summer NAPE® E&P Forum, Wednesday, August 26, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston.
Pete Stark Ph.D., vice president, industry relations for IHS CERA; and Bob Fryklund, vice president, IHS CERA, will lead the seminar focused on answering the question, “Is America Taking its Foot off the Gas?”
The morning session will address strategies, opportunities and challenges for upstream oil and gas companies during these tumultuous economic times. The afternoon session is a prospect promotion forum and will feature presenters who will highlight the oil and gas prospects they will feature in the 2009 Summer NAPE Expo, August 27-28.
“The U.S. natural gas industry transformed from a high-priced, supply constrained situation during 2008 to a low-priced, demand-slump industry during 2009,” said Stark. “The U.S. industry faces substantial challenges to adjust its operations and portfolios to compensate for this dramatic and rapid shift in business conditions.”
According to Stark, the U.S is being confronted by a “triple whammy,’ of factors that are threatening the industry’s growth — an unprecedented collapse of natural gas prices with legacy elevated cost structures, tight financial markets and potentially damaging taxes and regulations in proposed legislation.”
Despite these obstacles, Stark acknowledged the resilience of E&P companies and executives, who, having survived several peak and valley cycles, build their strategies to adjust for risk and long-term profitability and viability.
During the morning session of the 2009 Summer NAPE E&P Forum, seven outstanding industry experts will share their insights on the scope of these issues and the actions that companies are taking to adjust their operations to succeed in the current business climate and that industry organizations are taking to assure that natural gas will have a strong role in the U.S. energy future.
