IHS Presented with 2009 Department of Defense Team Achievement Award

Award recognizes partnerships for the National Forging Tooling Database

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (September 29, 2009) – IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight, was presented with a Team Achievement Award from the Department of Defense at the Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) and Standardization Conference in Orlando, Fla. on September 22, 2009.

The DMSMS 2009 Achievement Award recognizes the efforts of the National Forging Tooling Database (NFTD) team, which is a partnership between the Forging Industry Association of Cleveland, Ohio, the Forging Defense Manufacturing Consortium, the Advanced Technology Institute of North Charleston, S.C., Plex Systems, Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) Headquarters, the Defense Supply Centers in Columbus and Richmond, the University of Toledo, Ohio, and IHS. The consortium worked to identify and locate forging data for hard-to-find items, which was gathered from the forge shops and is delivered by the IHS Haystack® Gold parts and logistics solution.

Haystack Gold and the NFTD help provide warfighters with increased operational readiness and capability through the proactive management of DMSMS activities. The Haystack collection of more than 70 databases with information on millions of parts purchased by the DLA provides extraordinary connectivity to the NFTD, enhancing its value by linking it to procurement history and other relevant data. The subscription-based product allows purchasers and suppliers to learn about tooling location and status, lowering acquisition costs as well as reducing the need to duplicate tooling. Forging suppliers can determine when they can dispose of tooling thereby reducing their operating costs without impacting DOD requirements for replacement parts.
