CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (October 7, 2009) – Daniel Yergin, IHS Cambridge Energy Research Associates (IHS CERA) chairman and Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Prize, will address the future of energy at the second annual Singapore International Energy Week 2009 (SIEW) November 16, 2009.
Dr. Yergin will deliver the Singapore Energy Lecture, which will launch the week-long gathering where international and regional policymakers, industry leaders and academics will discuss the key energy issues and opportunities shaping public and business agendas. Dr. Yergin’s address will focus on the driving forces and key uncertainties that will shape the energy needs and opportunities that Asia and the world will face in the coming years.
“Singapore International Energy Week is a testament to Asia’s ever-growing significance to the global energy industry and Singapore’s role as a dynamic hub in the regional and global economy,” said Dr. Yergin. “It is a great honor for me and IHS CERA to mark the opening with the second Singapore Energy Lecture, particularly in the company of this distinguished gathering of policymakers, industry and thought leaders.”
“The last decade has seen a surge in worldwide demand for energy, fueled by the explosive growth of China and India. Coupled with climate change and geopolitical uncertainties, energy security has emerged as one of the most urgent issues on the international agenda,” said Lawrence Wong, Chief Executive, Energy Market Authority, Singapore. “EMA is privileged to have Dr. Yergin kick-start the Singapore International Energy Week by delivering the Singapore Energy Lecture. Being at the forefront of energy research and thought, Dr. Yergin will offer deep insights into the future of energy and also shed light on reshaping our energy landscape for a more sustainable future.”
SIEW 2009 will follow the heads-of-state APEC meeting being held in Singapore.
SIEW 2009 builds on the theme “Clean Energy: Sustainable Solutions for Urban Cities” to bring together energy experts to discuss key energy issues. Jointly organized by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) and the Energy Studies Institute (ESI), this event aims to connect energy leaders, impact the energy debate and define the future of energy in this rapidly evolving industry.
IHS CERA’s participation at SIEW 2009 will also include the IHS CERA Summit: Energy Trilemma for Asia. Similar to events at IHS CERA’s annual CERAWeek conference, the summit will be a special gathering of ministers, key executives and other leaders and will provide a forum for high-level discussion on the challenge of balancing energy security, environmental sustainability and economic competitiveness facing government and business leaders.
“SIEW continues to grow as one of the premier venues for deep, substantive discussion of the opportunities, challenges and questions shaping the energy landscape,” Dr. Yergin said. “IHS CERA is honored to help contribute to and participate in the important and timely discussions at this prestigious gathering.”
