IHS Wins Supply & Demand Chain Executive Magazine Green Supply Chain Award for Second Straight Year

Company again recognized as leading enabler of sustainable green supply chain performance

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (November 9, 2009) — IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight, announced today that it has been selected by Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine from among more than 50 small, midsize and large companies as recipient of the 2009 Green Supply Chain Award for being a leading enabler of sustainable green supply chain performance. The award will be featured in the October/November issue of Supply & Demand Chain Executive.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized by Supply & Demand Chain Executive with the prestigious Green Supply Chain Award for the second year in a row,” said Gerald F. Chew, IHS senior vice president, critical information. “IHS colleagues around the world have continued to work very diligently in 2009 to enable our clients’ most important product stewardship, environmental compliance, and sustainable supply chain initiatives. We take great pride in our work and appreciate Supply & Demand Chain Executive’s acknowledgement of our achievements.”

The 2009 Award review committee selected IHS for both its proven abilities to enable green business performance as well as its industry expertise and vision in several supply chain implications of the global green transition.  Among the topics which the committee believed IHS showed leadership were:

Counterfeit materials – Original research studies and speaking appearances linking green transition to counterfeit supply chain risk and related source of supply issues.

Indirect material MRO planning – Demonstrated leadership and innovation in the indirect materials and MRO supply chain; specifically, how next generation spend management philosophies can extend beyond cost reduction to simultaneous address “greener” health, safety, and toxicity performance in a down economy.

Product stewardship to EU REACH and global material regulations – Compelling research, papers, and client examples that show the true impact of environmental transitions and regulations beyond compliance, and how to enable holistic supply chain strategies.

Sustainability – Ability to benchmark and demonstrate leading practices for areas relating to chemicals management, environmental health and safety (EH&S), and sustainability with respect to carbon strategies and emissions management.

Product and Supply Chain Transparency – Tireless efforts to define the green movement as a paradigm shift and demonstrate the inter-dependency between standards, regulations, and information to enable product and supply chain footprint transparency.

“IHS continues to lead the way as far as breadth of expertise in topics relating to supply chain sustainability,” said Andrew K. Reese, editor, Supply & Demand Chain Executive magazine. “IHS has a strong team with a ‘finger on the pulse’ of the industry and what ‘green’ really means to the supply chain.”

IHS enables companies to meet supply chain sustainability in areas such as:

  • Standards & Regulations:  The assessment, interpretation and management of global standards and regulations
  • Product stewardship:  Compliance with regulations like RoHS or develop eco-friendly products
  • Chemical Lifecycle Management:  Chemical performance management to inventory toxicity, achieve EH&S or comply with regulations, including REACH
  • Sustainability:  Climate performance management to assess environmental impact, monitor energy use or participate in economic trade programs
