ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (February 9, 2010) – IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight, announced today that it has been honored by Environmental Business Journal (EBJ) with two EBJ Business Achievement Awards for its accomplishments during 2009.
“We are always proud to be recognized by EBJ and this year’s awards are especially meaningful, as environmental, health and safety (EHS) and sustainability business challenges continue to escalate worldwide,” said J. Scott Lockhart, IHS vice president, environment. “IHS is uniquely positioned to provide organizations with the complete and fully proven solutions they need — including information content, technology and expertise. These awards highlight our ability to deliver both the industry’s broadest, deepest software portfolio as well as a comprehensive array of specialized consulting services.”
IHS earned a Silver Medal in the Mergers and Acquisition category in recognition of several strategic advances, including the acquisition of EHS and crisis management software provider ESS. The acquisition enabled IHS to broaden its market offerings, and solidified its position at the top of the sustainability software space. IHS now has the largest customer base among EHS and sustainability software providers, with more than 3,000 organizations using IHS software for EHS – including more than 550 clients that use its enterprise-level solutions. The company also reached a major milestone with dozens of global corporations using IHS solutions for greenhouse gas and carbon management. Newly expanded professional services and support teams, as well as a global partner eco-system, will enable IHS to collaborate more closely than ever with customers to achieve their EHS and sustainability business goals.
Jane’s Strategic Advisory Services – the consulting arm of IHS Jane’s – along with environmental consulting firm Marstel-Day LLC also received an EBJ Business Achievement Award in the Consulting and Engineering category for establishing a new joint-practice area that directly supports policymakers, planners, and operators who face challenges around monitoring severe environmental, energy, and climate dynamics. IHS Jane’s and Marstel-Day launched a global environmental monitoring and intelligence initiative that focuses on the intersection between national security and environmental issues, in response to the emerging consensus that national security leaders must incorporate information regarding those issues into their strategic and operational planning. The new practice offers a global presence of more than 2,000 experts with in-country, on-the-ground perspectives; existing information sharing channels; in-depth environmental/technical/national security expertise; deep understanding of information needs for planners and policymakers; and, strong scenario development/analysis capabilities.
“IHS has continued to demonstrate its commitment to the environmental industry by strengthening its world-class software, content and expertise,” said Environmental Business Journal Editor Grant Ferrier. “We congratulate them on the rare feat of achieving EBJ Business Achievement Award-winner status two years in a row.”
The EBJ Business Achievement Awards will be presented during the Environmental Industry Summit 2010 scheduled for March 3-5 in San Diego.
