IHS Again Named Carbon Accounting Software Emerging Leader

Groom Energy Study Recognizes IHS as a Top Provider of Greenhouse Gas Emissions Management Software for Second Consecutive Year

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.  (March 9, 2010) – IHS (NYSE: IHS), a leading global source of critical information and insight, has been recognized as an emerging leader for enterprise carbon accounting (ECA) software for the second consecutive year, according to Groom Energy’s annual review of greenhouse gas (GHG) information systems.

“Proliferating governmental, investor and stakeholder pressures are driving organizations to address complex requirements for sustainability and regulatory reporting,” said J. Scott Lockhart, vice president, IHS Environmental Solutions. “We are pleased that Groom Energy has again recognized our proven ability to help organizations address these urgent challenges in the area of GHG emissions management.”

“This report is designed to help corporate decision makers understand the emerging trends associated with calculation and disclosure of carbon emissions and make better decisions when selecting an ECA solution,” said Paul Baier, vice president of consulting, Groom Energy Solutions. “Based on our findings, IHS continues to stand out as a leader in the space.”

The report, titled 2010 Enterprise Carbon Accounting: An Analysis of Corporate-Level Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Reporting and a Review of GHG Software Products, is an independent guide for organizations that are beginning to track and report their carbon emissions. It indicates that corporate interest in ECA software is expected to grow through 2011 due to three principal factors:

Customer and investor demands for companies trying to achieve a ‘greener’ reputation;
Sustainability investments that are driving cost and energy savings;
Companies adopting policies to reduce the environmental impact of supplier networks.

“With tightening regulatory pressures and increasing calls for voluntary disclosure, more organizations are implementing enterprise-level carbon accounting software platforms to streamline work processes across departments, facilities and business units,” added Lockhart. “They are demanding robust solutions from experienced providers who have earned the trust of business leaders from a variety of industry sectors worldwide.”

For nearly two decades, IHS solutions have enabled companies to reduce potential risks and costs by aligning their environmental compliance requirements and GHG management strategy with daily business operations. IHS sustainability software, combined with IHS information sources and domain expertise, offer companies a chance to transform climate change programs into drivers for efficiency and growth.
