NEW YORK (July 6, 2011) – Chemical Week has awarded Curt Espeland, senior vice president and chief financial officer of Eastman Chemical Company, the CFO of the Year Award at the 16th Annual CFO Conference in New York City.
Chemical Week, acquired by information and analysis provider IHS (NYSE: IHS), established the CFO of the Year Award in 2001 to recognize and honor the best in the chemical industry for financial leadership. This award is given annually to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution through vision and leadership, corporate reporting and performance, social responsibility, innovation and global competitiveness.
Espeland was chosen Chemical Week’s 2011 CFO of the Year based on his role in Eastman Chemicals’ strategy, including acquisitions and divestitures; the quality of the company’s communication to stakeholders; the transparency, quality and integrity of reported data by the company; and the company’s financial performance, capital structure and risk management. A survey of Chemical Week editors and industry analysts chooses the winner.
“Chemical Week is pleased to present the 2011 CFO of the Year award to a highly deserving recipient. The award honors Curt Espeland’s strong leadership, which is reflected in Eastman’s strong operating and financial performance and the quality and clarity of Eastman’s financial reporting,” said Robert Westervelt, Chemical Week editor-in-chief.
Espeland also was a speaker at the Chemical Week CFO Conference, presenting on the topic, “Developing a World class Finance Organization.” This presentation, as well as other presentations from the 16th annual CFO Conference can be purchased at http://store.chemweek.com.
