"We are proud that IHS clients will be among the first organizations to maximize the efficiencies available by using the EPA’s e-GGRT..."

IHS (NYSE: IHS), the leading global source of information and analysis, today announced the release of new functionality within the IHS GHG & Energy Solution™ to help organizations comply more easily with the Mandatory Reporting Rule (MRR) for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, as required by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  This IHS software enhancement will enable users to save time and reduce risks by automating the preparation of data for submission via EPA’s online system, the electronic Greenhouse Gas Reporting Tool or e-GGRT.

“Our experts were ready to build out this new functionality in our solution as soon as the EPA announced its data standards for e-GGRT, and we have started to make it available to IHS clients to facilitate electronic submission of their GHG data well in advance of the MRR deadline on September 30,” said IHS Senior Director, EHS & Sustainability Solutions Jeff Ladner.  “We expect this enhanced solution to reduce the time required to collect, prepare and enter GHG data into e-GGRT by up to 55 percent – and reduce data entry errors – compared to spreadsheets and manual processes.”

The IHS GHG & Energy Solution draws upon a flexible combination of content, expertise and software to help organizations report on GHG emissions, manage cap-and-trade and provide carbon-based decision support. The new MRR capability works seamlessly with IHS Essential Suite® and IHS opsInfo™-- two market-leading enterprise software lines used by hundreds of organizations worldwide. Specifically, the new enhancement provides a structured mechanism for moving transactional environmental and operational data and associated formatting stored in Essential Suite and opsInfo into EPA’s required XML schema for electronic submission. This fully automated functionality streamlines data collection, quality assurance and reporting functions while also delivering an auditable record of GHG MRR information that meets EPA standards.

The enhanced IHS GHG & Energy Solution simplifies compliance with these MRR subparts:

  • A   (General Provisions)
  • C   (Stationary Fuel Combustion Sources)
  • D   (Electricity Generation)
  • HH (Municipal Solid Waste Landfills)
  • NN (Suppliers of Natural Gas & Natural Gas Liquids)
  • P    (Hydrogen Production)
  • PP (Suppliers of Carbon Dioxide)
  • X   (Petrochemical Production) and
  • Y   (Petroleum Refineries)

“We are proud that IHS clients will be among the first organizations to maximize the efficiencies available by using the EPA’s e-GGRT,” Ladner added. “We want to thank our pilot group of users for their help and we look forward to sharing this enhancement with the rest of our users as soon our trial phase is completed.  This is another great example of how IHS experts and users are working together across multiple software platforms to deliver on the vision of enterprise sustainability management.”
